Defined

We are defined;
By the choices: we make,
By the paths we take.
We are defined;
By the words we say,
By our life of decay.

We are defined;
We are no more than our choices,
Our words,
Our actions.

If we are defined by all these things,
Why do we continually make poor choices?
Why do we hurt the ones we love,
Persecute strangers for who they are,
Transgress against the ones we hold dear,
Is it really based on fear?
Or is it based upon ignorance – bliss.

We blissfully ignore the pain of others,
To better ourselves &all we want.
Pleasure begets pain;
The pain of knowing we are the disaster; naturally.
We turn the world upside down, to turn our lives right side up.

We are defined by our humanity.
Yet we forget, we are defined.
