While the world sleeps, my mind races
Faster &yet even faster still, than the nights before.
What is it that I’m waiting for?
One moment of freedom from the torment –
Perhaps I believe there is something great to come.
But for now my mind, she lies in wait,
Gently rocking me from a state of consciousness,
Into the disorganized stupor of reverie…
She fights perception for a dissociative state,
That fleeting plain where screams are silenced,
For there is no need, there is only the moment,
A second, that fraction of eternity that writhes in our soul.
Often times tearing us asunder…
It is this thought, that near magical feeling that causes us those restless nights.
For our mind dances in its memories,
Creating for us the dreams of things we’ve seen-
Of places we’ve been.
Our mind, this leader, oh captain, my captain,
I pray thee lead me; take me upon your path,
This daunting winding road… For as I’ve learned it is the journey –
That makes us, that takes us, that leads us somewhere new.
Oh captain, my dear captain,
Help me to understand the words you gave to me,
Teach me to walk, down a path we both belong.
Allow me the strength to follow through, for captain, my dear captain
I do this all for you.
